Quit apologizing for being pretty.
You should not have to apologize for being attractive or having a figure. The way that you look should NOT be what matters or what you’re criticized for BUT we all know that this issue is all too real in our society.. And it always has been.
I just read an article about a school teacher who has curves and is beautiful who is catching tons of greive from the media asking, “Would you want her teaching your kids?”
Are you kidding me? Because she’s pretty and has a nice ass she’s not fit to teach your children? Wow.
Don’t we have more important issues in our education system that deserve this attention?
Let’s break this down really quickly…
We’re taught at a young age that you’re either the smart girl OR the pretty girl. You can’t be both.
People put the “smart girl” in the box of unattractive or awkward and the “pretty girl” in the box of naive and ditzy. People think these types of things have changed, but they haven’t. Why can’t you be both? What can you be the hott girl who’s also insanely intelligent AND independent? Why are we taught that that is NOT OKAY?
I’ve spent the majority of my adult life trying to prove that I have a place in male industries, hell.. in any industry. That I can be both pretty AND smart. That I can dress in clothes that fit my body AND be good at my job. I can’t tell you the number of times that I’ve literally sat frozen in shock in the middle of a business meeting when somehow, someone has mentioned my appearance.
The fact of the matter is, this shouldn’t even be a factor at all.
If I’m standing up in front of a meeting teaching them the best way to organize their team or how to utilize the newest estimation software to scale their automotive business, how I look should NOT matter.
Are we really still that close minded as a society that it’s not about what someone is saying?
It’s about what they look like while saying it?
Give me a break. We’re better than that people!
I can’t tell you how many times I had to strategically choose the right outfit with a skirt that was just long enough or had a high cut neck line before attending a conference or meeting because I didn’t want to deal with the smirks, or comments, or being brushed off as the “dumb young girl” because I have boobs and an ass.
“Oh, she’s just looking for attention”
“Who is THIS girl?”
The funny thing is, women are JUST as bad as men when it comes to being guilty of this type of shaming, if not more guilty than men.
If people spent even ¼ of the amount of time worrying about bettering themselves as they do on judging other people, then this world would be a much better place.
LADIES. DON’T APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR LOOKS. Be PROUD of who you are and what you have to offer, on the INSIDE and the OUTSIDE.
LADIES. Quit bashing each other.
It’s bad enough women have to prove themselves in male dominated industries, but we shouldn’t always have to prove ourselves to each other. Keep your eyes on your own lane and quit tearing each other down.
Lead by example. Build each other up. Encourage one another.
Now go take over the world!
