Don't let anyone dim your light

5 years ago I walked away from a life I never thought I’d be in.

This past weekend marks the anniversary of when I finally stood up and said Enough is Enough.

I remember sitting there thinking in the debris of the chaos of my “home”, thinking…

“Who is this girl?”
“How is this my life?”

I couldn’t believe that it was me. That I had allowed myself to get so sucked into such a toxic situation. That I had allowed someone to control my life so much. That I had allowed someone to completely dim my light.

I used to be ashamed to admit it. I was ashamed to admit that I allowed myself to get stuck in that place. But when I look at where I am now, all I am is proud.

Proud that I had the strength to walk away from it all.
Proud that I had the strength to completely rebuild my life and who I was.
I was given the opportunity to start over. So I got really tough, I stood back up and became the strong, unstoppable woman I was before…

And I’ve NEVER looked back.

If you are in an unhealthy relationship, a toxic environment, or somewhere where you feel unsafe, mistreated or abused, I want you to know that you CAN leave.

I know it’s easier said than done, trust me. I know how hard it can be. But I also know that it’s possible. And when you have that feeling that it’s time to leave, when you know it’s now right, LEAVE and never look back.

Everyone deserves to enjoy their life. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly. Everyone deserves to be able to make their own decisions. Everyone deserves to be the person they are without explanation.

Please, if you’re in that spot, I want you to know that there is hope… but it’s up to you to make the change. Reach down in your heart and find that strength, find that vision of who you used to be, of who you want to be, and hold on to it. Let that fuel your fire to survive, your fire to make the change.

Don’t let anyone dim your light.
